green eggs and ham
Shristuti Srirapu
i wanna make you green
eggs and ham in the morning and
then smoke a cigarette flavored with
orange. ash it out in your hair and
watch you turn grey. we grow old like
plants wither and we don’t kiss but
our coffee tastes like sugar enough.
we gorge ourselves on pixie dust
and wet dreams and then tell
each other we cannot be broken.
we say shut up like a love song
and i play myself like a bard.
you stomp rhythm into muddy
earth and we run from the ants.
you drink to die on maple syrup
tinged absinthe and the glitter
in our hair leaves dust patterns
on our bookshelves. i wanna pull
the strings on your dress till i make
a ball of yarn. knit you a basket for
our notes and poems. rot in the
woods and drown in the lake and then
some. love you in the morning and
come home to you at night. take off
your jewelry and be blinded by gold
around our bed of roses and tulips.
i want to be yours and i want to make
you mine knowing nothing is real.
